AZBTR Migrating to a New Online Platform May 2025
The Arizona Board of Technical Registration is migrating all applications and licensing processes onto a new online platform with a ‘go live’ date in mid May 2025. There will be a time period of approximately two weeks prior to going live during which the developer will migrate data from the Board’s current database into the new platform and agency staff will verify the data is accurate and the system is working as intended. During this period staff will continue to provide assistance where possible, but functions specific to the processing of applications, renewals and requests requiring the use of a database/online platform may be affected.
Why is the Board moving onto this new platform?
Currently, the Board utilizes a Microsoft CRM (Customer Relations Management) database for all of its data. While flexible, the database does not offer a way for users to access a portal and enter information.
The consequences of this include, but are not limited to:
- Applicants being required to submit paper applications to the agency along with payment in the form of a check or money order;
- Agency staff manually entering ALL data received into the system, regardless of how it was received (paper, pdf, email, etc);
- Agency staff manually updating the Board’s online public registries; and
- Lack of automated functionality, such as sending system automated emails to license holders whose expiration is coming up.
What does it mean to ‘go live’?
The agency will operate solely on the new online platform and discontinue use of the CRM database. All processes regarding applications and licensing, including renewals, will occur through the online platform. Once live, applicants, licensees and businesses will need to login to the platform to access Board services.
Board services include, but are not limited to:
- Application submittals;
- License renewals;
- License change requests, such as inactivation and deactivation of a license;
- Name change request;
- Document submission (home inspector financial assurance, alarm agent and controlling person fingerprint clearance cards);
- Adding or removing oneself as a principal or controlling person from a firm/branch/alarm business;
- Updating contact information; and
- Acceptance of credit card and e-check payments.
If your Individual or business license expiration date is in April or May, please renew your license using the Board’s current online payment site prior to May 1, 2025.
Firm and Branch Renewals
ARS 32-141(C) provides, in part, “A firm wishing to offer professional services in this state shall file with the board an application for registration on a form that is provided by the board and accompanied by the appropriate application fee as prescribed by the board… Except as provided in section 32-4301, a new application shall be filed each year by the firm within thirty days of the anniversary date of the original firm registration”.
Please be aware that the online platform will not allow a firm and branch registration to be renewed more than 30 days after the expiration of the registration, and a new application for registration will be required that, if granted, will require issuance of a new license number.
Alarm Business and Controlling Person Renewals
ARS 32-122.05(E) provides, in part: “An alarm business and each controlling person shall file an application for a certificate renewal with the board no later than fourteen days before the expiration of the certificate that is currently in effect. If a certificate expires without the alarm business or controlling persons having submitted a timely application for renewal, the alarm business may not operate until the holder of the expired certificate files a new application for an initial certificate”.
Please be aware that the online platform will not allow either an alarm business or controlling person certification to be renewed after expiration, and a new application for registration will be required that, if granted, will require issuance of a new certificate number.
